Gear Head Run at 4-H Park

4-H Junior Leaders will be selling pizzas at the annual Gearhead Run, Saturday, at the Wells County 4-H Park in Bluffton. Registration is 8 a.m. to noon; awards will be handed out at 4 p.m.




Megan Thompson is going to stack pizza boxes. The Jr. Leaders folded pizza boxes for a pre-order make and take pizza sale for Saturday's car show.



Kayla Taylor is folding a pizza box. The Jr. Leaders folded around a hundred boxes on Thursday.

Mini 4-H at LCES



Wells County Purdue Extension Agent Roger Sherer visited Lancaster Central Elementary School on Wednesday to talk about the Mini 4-H program with first- and second graders. Each of the students received information they will bring home to their parents about the program. Sherer will visit all first and second-grade students in the county.

2010 Farm Program Signup

June 1 is the last day producers can sign up in the 2010 Farm Program, Approximately 1000 farms have not signed up in the farm program this year. Farms cannot be signed
into the program after June 1.

Interested producers should contact the Wells County FSA office for an appointment to sign up. Appointments can be made by calling 824-1930 or stopping by the office at 117 W Harvest Rd Bluffton, Monday through Friday 8:00 to 4:30pm.

4-H SHOT GUN SAFETY CLUB SIGN UP

The Wells County 4-H Shot Gun Safety Club will hold its first meeting Saturday,
April 17, 2 ñ 4 PM at the Wells County Gun Club, 2555 E., 400 N., Ossian.

Youth may become members when they enter third grade and may continue their membership through the completion of grade 12. A member may continue membership for a maximum of ten (10) years.

One of the requirements in the 4-H Shot Gun Safety Club is the ability to physically handle a shot gun. The club will be using 12 and 20 gauge shot guns. The leaders with parents will determine if the youth can safely handle the weight and size of the gun.

The 4-H club has several shot guns for participants to use. Club members that wish to use their own shot guns will be required to have their shot guns safety checked by a licensed gunsmith and return a signed safety certificate to the 4-H Leaders before they will be allowed to use them. Safety certificates will be available at sign up.

Cost of the program is $35 which includes equipment, supplies, insurance, awards and refreshments at the Awards Event. Some partial scholarships are available. Check with leaders or the Extension Office..

The program is taught by 4-H certified instructors. Safety is the main focus of the program.

PANCAKE & SAUSAGE BREAKFAST AT HOME AND GARDEN EXPO

Wells County 4-H will be sponsoring a Pancake & Sausage Breakfast (all you can eat) on Saturday, April 10, 7 AM ñ 11 AM at the Wells County Community Center at the 4-H Park in Bluffton.

Cost of the meal is $5 for adults and $3 for youth 6 ñ 12 years of age. Children 5 and under are $1.

Biscuits and gravy will also be available for $4 which includes the drink.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the 4-H Park.

The event is part of the annual Wells County Home & Garden Expo. Hours for the show will include Friday, 11 AM ñ 7 PM and Saturday, 8 AM ñ 3 PM.

4-H ARCHERY CLUB ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE

WELLS COUNTY EXTENSION SERVICE



Youth will have an opportunity to learn about archery and the important safety skills through the Wells County 4-H Archery Club.

Sign up night will be held Monday, April 19th, 6:30 ñ 8:30 at the 4-H Park Quonset Building (upstairs) at the 4-H Park in Bluffton.

On April 27, 6:30 ñ 8:30 PM the beginners will meet to learn the safety procedures, range rules and basic archery skills.

Advanced members will meet on April 28, 6:30 ñ 8:30 PM and continue through June.

All meetings will be held at the 4-H Park Quonset Building (upstairs) at the 4-H Park in Bluffton.

Shooting range rules, safety skills and archery technique will be explained.

Regular meetings will begin on May 4 and continue each Tuesday.

4-H Club membership is open to youth when they enter the third grade and continues through grade 12. A member may continue membership for a maximum of ten (10) years.

Member fee is $25.00. (The second member in the family is $20.) (Includes archery information, equipment, insurance, and awards.) Check should be made payable to 4-H Archery Club. Scholarships available ñ check with leaders. No person will be turned away for financial constraints.

Parents and interested adults are welcome to attend with the youth. Adults who are interested in helping or becoming a certified instructor are also encouraged to attend. Members attending may use the clubs equipment or bring your own simple or compound bow.

The 4-H Archery Club encourages youth to learn safety procedures and the seven steps of Archery. These seven steps include the stance; nocking the arrow (placing the arrow correctly in the bow); the draw (the pull action of the bow); the anchor (how far to pull back the string); the aim or hold (remembering to look at what you want to hit ñ the bullís eye); the release (letting go of the string); and the follow through (until the arrow reaches its destination).
