Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service of Wells County will be offering a Pressure Canner Testing session on Monday, August 2nd from 4:00-7:00 PM in the meeting rooms at the Wells County Community Center at the 4-H Park.
Pressure canning is the only recommended method for canning meat, poultry, seafood and vegetables. Using boiling water canners for these low-acid foods poses a real risk of botulism poisoning. The USDA recommends a dial gauge pressure canner be checked once a season for accuracy.
The Extension Service will check the dial gauge and lid for $3.00. If you bring in the whole dial gauge canner, a full canner assessment can be made for $5.00. This is the last scheduled pressure canner testing session for the summer.
Contact the Wells County Office of the Purdue University Cooperative Extension at 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM if you have any questions.
