Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service of Wells County will be offering a Pressure Canner Testing session on Thursday July 1st from 9:00 – 11:00 AM and 1:00 – 4:00 PM at the Wells County Community Center at the 4-H Park.
Pressure canning is the only recommended method for canning meat, poultry, seafood and vegetables. Using boiling water canners for these low-acid foods poses a real risk of botulism poisoning. The USDA recommends a dial gauge pressure canner be checked once a season for accuracy.
The Extension Service will check the dial gauge and lid for $3.00. If you bring in the whole dial gauge canner, a full canner assessment can be made for $5.00. Another canner testing session will be held on August 2nd if you cannot attend this session.
